[Bug 1140572] New: System fails to shutdown, does not reboot after "[ OK ] Reached target Shutdown."
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1140572 Bug ID: 1140572 Summary: System fails to shutdown, does not reboot after "[ OK ] Reached target Shutdown." Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.1 Hardware: aarch64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: okurz@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- ## Observation The machine "aarch64.o.o", a former OBS worker, which is now used for openQA (openqa.opensuse.org) is often stuck in shutdown when trying to reboot. The system is installed with openSUSE Leap 15.1, previously Leap 15.0 where the problem also appeared, being a "transactional server" with nightly reboots. kdump could not detect any kernel crashes so far. To debug I connected over IPMI SOL to monitor the output since some days. The system survived three reboots over three days in a row and now is stuck again since tonight. As I am still in a SOL session I can see the last entries: ``` [ OK ] Stopped target Local File Systems (Pre). [ OK ] Stopped Remount Root and Kernel File Systems. Stopping Monitoring of LVM2 mirrors…ng dmeventd or progress polling... [ OK ] Stopped Create Static Device Nodes in /dev. [ OK ] Reached target Shutdown. ``` so the machine is actually stuck in shutdown and fails to reboot from there. Sending [magic sysrq over IPMI SOL](https://access.redhat.com/solutions/1172013) has no effect though. Any hints for further debugging? [ OK ] Reached target Shutdown.
I've been seeing this disturbingly often, but on x86_64, and not just in openSUSE, or on only one PC. I can only recall this happening with Legacy/BIOS booting. How to recreate at will has been perfectly elusive to date. Often a wait of 30 seconds or a minute or more and whatever the holdup was disappears on its own. Other times, no amount of wait is sufficient. Sometimes CAD helps, while other times I see the 7 times or more systemd message and the delay or complete failure nevertheless continues. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
