Okay, you say the monitor could not be detected. However, when I call Sax2, than the monitor is recognized as "ACI VW 246" (see sax2-main.png). Notice that ACI isn't the manufacture of my monitor, but it is ASUS. However, the model number is correct. About sax2-monitor-displaySize.png: diagonal, x-axis and y-axis seems to be correct. (The shop claimed that it is a 24"-display. The axises I've controlled with a ruler.) However, aspect ration seems to be wrong to me (1920:1080=1,7777..., right? No. After "init 3" and "sax2", 1280x1024 is preselected (and also used by the X server that is started by sax2).

No. I've made this screenshot _after_ configuring xorg with "init 3" and "sax2" - however, during the configuration I had yet changed the resolution to the correct value. I've made this screenshot in runlevel 5 from a regular session (because I didn't know how to make a screenshot from sax2 in runlevel 3). I've made it only to show that sax2 recognized the monitor. (BTW: The monitor is also correctly recognized when running sax2 in runlevel 3!)
Where is the issue here?

No... My explication was confusing... So here is a try of a complete explication: - I had an old TFT monitor (1024x768) on my openSUSE 11.1 machine. - I have bought a new TFT monitor (1920x1080): ASUS VW 246 - I have shouted down opensuse. - I have disconnected the old monitor and connected the new monitor. - I have started opensuse. - When the X server started, it was staying at a low resolution. - I have switched to runlevel 3. - I have called sax2. - Sax2 in runlevel 3 did these things wrong: -- recognized monitor as "ACI VW 246" (expected: "ASUS VW 246") -- proposed resolution: 1280x1024 (expected: 1920x1080) - I have changed manually the resolution from 1280x1024 to 1920x1080 - I have made the tarball from the log files (see comment #1) - I have switched to runlevel 5. - The X server started correctly the KDE4 session at 1920x1080 - I have started sax2 from the running KDE4 session to take a look on further options... - At this time, I've made the screenshots (see comment #10 and comment #11) So the problem is: - When starting sax2 in runlevel 3, it proposes incorrectly 1280x1024 as resolution (expected: 1920x1080). [I _have_ tested this.] - I would imagine that this is a general problem, not only in runlevel 3 but for example also when making a new installation of openSUSE 11.1. [I did _not_ test this.] These things seem strange to me (maybe they have something to do with the bug?): - Sax2 recognizes the monitor as "ACI VW 246" (expected: "ASUS VW 246") - Sax2->Monitor settings->Change shows correct values for size of diagonal (24") and width an hight of the monitor (in mm), but the aspect ratio is selected with 16:10 (expected: 16:9). Than, I've done: - init 3 - sax2 - The sax2-screen is ugly (I asume 1280x1024) - Selecting nevertheless directly "Save" (not "Change configuration"!). - init 5 - screen is badly at 1280x1024 So I've made a new try: - init 3 - sax2 - The sax2-screen is ugly (I asume 1280x1024) - This time selecting "Change configuration" - The config dialog has preselected 1920x1080 (although the screen is ugly, I asume 1280x1024) - I change the configuration of my keyboard from "nodeadkeys" to "basic". - Click on "save" - A dialog appears, asking for test or exit - choosing "test" - the test screen is fine 1920x1080 - leaving sax2 - init 5 - The X server starts fine at 1920x1080 So by default it still doesn't work... Only when I make changes to the configuration...
