[Bug 436946] New: Check for invalid memory acesses by modules during Linux shutdown
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=436946 Summary: Check for invalid memory acesses by modules during Linux shutdown Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Markus.Elfring@web.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- A couple of messages are quickly displayed on the text screen while the usual shutdown procedure is executed. I saw an unexpected error message like "nm-setti segfault" or "gdm ... segfault" on my system. It seems that the corresponding complete details do not appear in the file "/var/log/messages". Would you like to support that segmentation violations should not occur during the power-off or computer restart? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is this behavior reproducible?
Yes. The message "nm-system-setti ... ip 20 ... segfault" reappears while I am running the Linux kernel 2.6.26.6 and 2.6.27.4. (It is hard for me to catch the complete information at the quick end of the shutdown procedure.)
Have you done any updates before shutting computer down?
I apply updates to my system often.
Does memtest reports any errors on this computer?
I did not have a need to check this recently because my computer hardware runs stable. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Do you still see that issue in 11.1?
No. - Was any pointer handling improved for safer object destructor implementations in the meantime?

I get this error message, too. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
