[Bug 900558] Impossible to boot in single user mode with root mounted read only
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=900558 http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=900558#c22 --- Comment #22 from Thomas Blume <thomas.blume@suse.com> --- (In reply to Archie Cobbs from comment #21)
Hi folks. Can someone please explain what is the status of this bug?
Is this fixed in 13.1 now?
If not, is there a workaround?
I need a little practical advice. I have a funny desire to have my machines to be recoverable.
Thanks.
The patch will never get accepted upstream, because, the boot parameter ro is used in other distros to make initial mount of system root readonly. For SUSE this parameter is irrelevant, because we hardcode the initial mount to be readonly (and I don't see any reason why we shouldn't do this). In this light, I'd still keep the patch as SUSE-only fix. It is usable for the emergency target (single user) and as written in comment#16, you can do quite cool things using this parameter and btrfs. I have submitted the patch to the development repo. Let's see wheter it gets accepted. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
