[Bug 279042] New: Build dependency on postfix
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279042 Summary: Build dependency on postfix Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 4plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bjoern@cs.tu-berlin.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Some RPM packages (seen in the SPEC files of fetchmail - fetchmail-6.3.8-16.src.rpm and PHP - php5-5.2.2-12.src.rpm) have a build dependency on postfix. Isn't it better to change the dependency to "smtp_daemon" (defined by Sendmail, Postfix etc.). It would make building of these packages less confusing for non-Postfix users). As an alternative, the postfix _build_ dependency could be removed since a SMTP daemon is not really needed on build time. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=279042 ------- Comment #1 from judas_iscariote@shorewall.net 2007-06-01 18:02 MST ------- I can talk for PHP.. PHP only looks for a "sendmail" binary in the system, and if found it defines HAVE_SENDMAIL .. that permits to determine if php mail() function gets defined or not. using smtp_daemon **is done** but not for buildrequires only in Requires, this change has caused a set of problems, the buildservice wasnt aware of multiple packages providing smtp_deamon as well all different pacakage managers handle the Requires: smtp_daemon in a different way... smart installs postfix, zypp and yum install exim.. in short user will get different software installed dependeing the $packagemanager, build currently works as is, please dont break it again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It helps to ensure that all the built packages are the same. It is recommended to build packages in chroot environment via "build", "osc build" or Build Service, so conflicts with installed system should not be problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

That's correct, I have never used soemthign different than "build" or the buildservice.. the "random selection" I was taking about happends in the user side not in the packager side ;-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
