http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1073201 Bug ID: 1073201 Summary: UEFI: 42.3 y2start pegs CPU when bootloader kernel parameters tab is selected Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.3 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: mrmazda@earthlink.net QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 753389 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=753389&action=edit y2logs .tgz [This was my first ever attempt to GPT partition and install to a UEFI mode PC.] I tried twice with 42.3, spending well over an hour each time, then TW20171214, which completed installation after only briefly driving CPU to 100% with y2start, and booted as expected. Attachment is from first 42.3 try. To reproduce: 1-fully GPT partition wiped target HD in advance 2-format all Linux native partitions in advance 3-boot netboot CD on new Kaby Lake PC configured to boot UEFI 4-proceed through "Custom Partitioning (for experts)" specifying existing but unformatted GPT /dev/sda1 ESP partition be formatted FAT32 for mount on /boot/esr 5-proceed through package selection 6-configure passwords 7-select booting from installation settings screen 8-select kernel parameters tab Actual behavior: 1-busy indicator stays on indefinitely 2-mouse clicks produce no response 3-top on tty2 shows 200% CPU from y2start Expected behavior: 1-able to proceed with and complete installation -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Felix, could you, please, try to run the installer turning on the debugging and attaching fresh logs? (Set the Y2DEBUG=1 option when booting the installer).

Booted to 42.3 installer, output is "> bios.4.2: mode info", and CPU stays pegged at least 7 minutes, apparently indefintely, also leaving no dmesg clues. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

could you run 'hwinfo --fr --log=foo.log' during a TW or Leap 15.0 install (use startshell=1 boot option, no real install necessary) and attach the log?
I used 20171214TW netboot CD. Normal boot of TW or 15.0 would not have sufficed? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
