After kernel update 2.6.37.6-0.5.1 display stop to work, I need to boot in failsafe to get it working, if I downgrade kernel all works as usual.
Does this mean that everything else on your machine *is* working? I.e. are you able to connect to it via SSH? Or log in blindly and issue a command? Then I would say I've been hit by the same bug. After having updated via "zypper up" from kernel-default-2.6.37.1-1.2.2.i586 to kernel-default-2.6.37.6-0.5.1.i586 the display stays black. No console, no X. Login via SSH is possible. Apart from not displaying anything the machine behaves normally. Setting the kernel commandline parameter "nomodeset" gives me at least a working console but no X. Downgrading to kernel-default-2.6.37.1-1.2.2.i586 solves the problem (X and console both work again). After kernel update 2.6.37.6-0.5.1 display stop to work, I need to boot in failsafe to get it working, if I downgrade kernel all works as usual. Yes, we have the same problem, I have a radeon X800 GTO (R430)
Does this mean that everything else on your machine *is* working? I.e. are you able to connect to it via SSH? Or log in blindly and issue a command?
Then I would say I've been hit by the same bug.
After having updated via "zypper up"
from kernel-default-2.6.37.1-1.2.2.i586 to kernel-default-2.6.37.6-0.5.1.i586
the display stays black.
