[Bug 1185232] something has gone seriously wrong: shim_init() - system does not boot anymore after installing today's updates
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1185232 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1185232#c16 --- Comment #16 from Gary Ching-Pang Lin <glin@suse.com> --- (In reply to Mathias Homann from comment #0)
after today's updates, either openSUSE-2021-598 or openSUSE-2021-599, my system didn't boot anymore. All I got was a black screen with this text:
"Failed to get load options: Invalid Parameter set_second_stage() failed: Invalid Parameter Something has gone seriously wrong: shim_init() failed: Invalid Parameter"
It's strange to see this error. The error status is from HandleProtocol() and it only happens when at least one of the parameters is NULL, but I didn't see any possibility in the current code. Besides, the previous shim also used the same code, and it seems okay in your machine.
to get it back to working I had to: 1. disable secure boot in bios 2. boot the installed system from DVD 3. log in as root, and re-install grub2 from yast with "secure boot off".
I'm not sure if its the shim patch or the grub patch that is broken, or something about the bios on my computer - on my laptop everything is fine...
Could you paste the output of "dmidecode"? At least we can collect the list of affected machines. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
