https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=810373 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=810373#c0 Summary: Live Linux KDE 64 bit DVD does not show how to connect to internet on first screen Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Usability AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: eionmac@btinternet.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:19.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/19.0 On loading KDE Live Linux from DVD, first screen loads, network manager pop up is visible in lower right hand screen, seems sensible to use to get to internet. No Joy, Wired connection has add greyed out, wireless had add greyed out (both Eth) wired connected and wireless active on computer. Tick to use network manager no action. This immediately stops any internet use by a newbie, as most Live Linux distos show existing wireless connections to enable select and connect or ethernet to select and connect. (E.g. Knoppix, Puppy) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Load DVD 2. Start screen has no way to connect to internet. Except network manager in lower right hand box 3. Always reproducable Actual Results: 1. Load YAST 2 Select DNS set up and know DNS ,settings! (newbie would not know!) 3 Select by adding an ISP, DNS auto and log on password etc Expected Results: To get to ISP and internet. it was successful The LIVE LINUX disto should automatically scan for available wireless connections and connected ethernet wired connections and show a dialog on FIRST landing page to connect. the OpenSUSE 12.3 live Linux distros do not give any introduction to a newbie and much distress to an experienced 'user' as they do not perform as others to connect to internet on first start up. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Bug exits on Live Linux KDE 64 bit on my DELL E6520 November 2012 manufacture and HP G61 2009 manufacture laptops. When I tried out an old Accer 7720(circa 2005) laptop the initial screen showed both network and wireless tick boxes in network manager. Thus active wireless could be discovered. Repeated trials with DELL and HP and again no wireless tick box available in network manager from initial page. Again only way in was via YAST DNS. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
