I see Gkrellm come up on the desktop and the mouse pointer is active and moves, but the Plama desktop does not come up. Before logging, can you try running:
old ~/.cache/{qtshadercache* old ~/.cache/plasmashell
to check if it helps.

The issue might be caused by https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/12253. Reverting to Mesa 24.3.0 should fix it for the time being.

There was no kernel update between the working and non-working Mesa versions.
