https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=669937 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=669937#c0 Summary: KMS with ATi radeon X1950 XTX fails to detect screen on DVI ports (driver=radeon): Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: revealed@freakmail.de QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 SUSE/3.6.13-3.1 Firefox/3.6.13 Hello! I am trying to get Kernelmodesetting detecting my monitor since distupgrade to OpenSuSE 11.3. I want to benefit from new features like DRI2. In the meantime i have to boot with nomodeset and vga='value'; And i am using a xorg.conf; Here some Hardware Specs: ASUS P5B (Latest BIOS); Core2Duo E6600 4 GB RAM ASUS (ATi) "EAX 1950 XTX"; PCI:*(0:1:0:0) 1002:7240:1043:0188 ATI Technologies Inc R580 [Radeon X1900] rev 0, Mem @ 0xc0000000/268435456, 0xff7f0000/65536, I/O @ 0x00009000/256, BIOS @ 0x????????/131072 RADEON(0): Chipset: "ATI Radeon X1950" (ChipID = 0x7240) Screen is: HP w2408 h; It has connection possibilies via VGA and or HDMI; The ATi card has Dual DVI; So i have to use Adapters to connect it to DVI. So i tried: - VGA (15 pin D-Sub) to DVI Adapter. - HDMI to DVI Adapter. Some info on my software: openSUSE 11.3 (i586) VERSION = 11.3 Linux wild-thing 2.6.34.7-0.7-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2010-12-13 11:13:53 +0100 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Kernel an Xorg from repo oss and Update; Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 0. Make Sure DDC/CI is enabled in HP w2408h firmware ---; 1. Boot with KMS enabled and Display on port one or two. 2. Tried HDMI to DVI and VGA to DVI adapters (both); 3. After initialisation of KMS screen turns black and turns off. (No matter which DVI port is used). Actual Results: I can get picture with KMS when doing these steps: 1. Boot PC with KMS enabled to Runlevel 3 2. Screen is black (off) not detected; 3. Blindly logon to Linux 4. Physically switch DVI port from Port 1 to Port 2 (or back); 5. rcxdm restart Expected Results: Seems like Hotplugging would work??? But i have to boot up the System with 'nomodeset'; As i dont want to plug the screen around on every reboot. The PC should start when KMS is enabled with solid Picture and no flickering. Screens should be detected automatically with native resolution. As far as i have seen the card trys to detect a possible lm64 thermal seonsor; I checked the output from DRM with the Kernel from Update* 2.6.34.7-0.7-desktop: It says: Feb 4 01:41:46 wild-thing kernel: [ 3059.779877] [drm:radeon_i2c_create] *ERROR* Failed to register bit i2c DVI Could this be related to the detection Problem?? I got some help at linux-club.de forum. I wanted to try newer kernels to see if it was possibly already fixed in a newer version. And i did so. Ihave been testing this kernel on the screen detection --(multiversion in zypper): http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_11.3/ But - No - Go; (Still black Screen). So i replugged my Screen physically and issued rcxdm restart in order to get picture. I found it was loading lm63 automatically and sensors stated me temperatures as seen here: lm64-i2c-1-18 Adapter: Radeon i2c bit bus 0x92 temp1: +59.0°C (high = +70.0°C) temp2: +78.8°C (low = +0.0°C, high = +70.0°C) ALARM (crit = +120.0°C, hyst = +100.0°C) But there are *ERRORS* in the output of DRM, using 2.6.38 rc3. I will upload the testing results as attachement. (This is not directly bug related)?? I am forum member in linux-club.de and i posted and tryed to figure out about this issue in this Topic: http://www.linux-club.de/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=112546 (Please have a look at, if you want to). It is in german language. I will inform them, that i have opened this bugreport here, too. I would appereciate your Help very much. Please guide me on necessary required informations. I will provide them as soon as possible. Many thanks!
