[Bug 1120300] New: gnuserv dysfunnctional
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1120300 Bug ID: 1120300 Summary: gnuserv dysfunnctional Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.0 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- When trying to start gnuclient on leap 15 it fails badly. Using the standard emacs from the distribution it states: error in process filter: invalid function: 1 when performing an upgrade to emacs 26.1 the error message is error in process filter: Wrong type argument: listp, "/home/fred/.profile" when trying to load ".profile" into a gnuclient - buffer. The related entries in .gnu-emacs-custom are: (autoload 'gnuserv-start "gnuserv-compat") (add-hook 'emacs-startup-hook '(lambda() (gnuserv-start))) what used to work for decades. Maybe Mr. Fink would be a knowledgeable person in this regard? Thanks anyways for looking into this ... Dieter Jurzitza -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1120300 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1120300#c1 --- Comment #1 from Dieter Jurzitza <dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de> --- Made some progress. I built and installed gnuserv as comes from leap 42.3. This urged me to install several packages because x11-xorg-devel was necessary. However, after installation gnuclient works as it always did. Therefore I assume that the changes / "cleanups" in March changed something that causes gnuserv to fail badly. By the way: after having build gnuserv-3.12.6-278.7.x86_64.rpm it became impossible to build gnuserv as distributed with leap 15 any more. Please find attached the logfile of the build process. My problem is saved now, however, gnuserv as distributed with leap is broken IMHO. http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1120300 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1120300#c8 --- Comment #8 from Dieter Jurzitza <dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de> --- Any progress here? I updated to leap 15.1 with no improvement and I looked into the tumbleweed distribution with the same problems. Please test what is being compiled, it simply does not work. To circumvent the issue there is one simple addition mandatory (as readily mentioned): %configure should be replaced by %configure --x-includes=/usr/include Do not ask me why this is the case. As a matter of fact I can install the distributed version and it does not work with emacs. After rebuild of the version as distributed with leap 42.3 everything works like a charm. The same holds true if I modify the configure - call as mentioned above. It is giving me a hard time to understand why a broken software is being distributed for such a long time when the solution of the issue is communicated and so simple. Thank you for looking into this, best Dieter Jurzitza -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
