How did you install the system? Normally mkinitrd should not require you to set INITRD_MODULES, because it automatically detects which modules are required to get the currently running system up again. Could you please attach the generated mkinitrd? I would like to see where it missets the parameter. Everything else can be done in the normal init code. I believe you are searching for a means to have the dm-raid4-5 module in MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT, but dmraid -ay run on bootup instead of the initrd. Hannes, I believe this one is for you after all. We do _not_ include the dmraid-4-5 module in openSUSE 10.3. So we cannot boot from this disk. Grub will start (as I/O is handled by the BIOS), but the kernel cannot mount the root fs as we wouldn't know how to handle it. Sorry.
