This driver should be in 10.3.
Since I filed this bug report I have tried other distros (fedora 6, feisty) and found the same problems. I found a workaround for this hardware. This was to set noapic=off on boot. It appears (anecdotally) that there is a problem with with the interrupt handling. Will the patch you implemented fix this? Is this where you found an error? If there is any way I can help/test the patch let me know... https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229903 ------- Comment #6 from kkeil@novell.com 2007-05-06 04:38 MST ------- OK, then this is not an issue that the driver do not support the card or has a bug. It is more an issue of the motherboard/chipset/BIOS, that it gives wrong PCI interrupt routing info. Please try instead of your workaround to boot with pci=noacpi, this should be disable only the PCI interrupt routing via ACPI, but leave the other ACPI functions in place. You can also try to install a BIOS update, if any is available. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229903 ------- Comment #7 from andy@haynesy.com 2007-05-07 09:16 MST ------- Hi, I have taken your advice and tried with pci=noacpi and still have the same problem. Did you mean noapic rather than noacpi ?? As I mentioned when I opened this bug report, there is a similar reportage on the kernel bugzilla #6419 (of which I have been involved). The news there is that this bug has been fixed (I will be trying a new vanilla kernel when I get chance to see if this has worked). Any other ideas ?? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229903 ------- Comment #8 from kkeil@novell.com 2007-05-07 09:38 MST ------- OK I guessed that you mixed up noacpi and noapic (noapic=off is not a valid parameter). So it seems, that really need to switch off the APIC of the motherboard it looks like a HW issue or a fundamental bug in the VIA PCI chipset kernel code. According to the kernel bugzilla the problem do not longer appear on current mainline kernel, which will be the base for SL 10.3. You can try to install the actual kernel from our daily builds and look if it solve the problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229903 ------- Comment #9 from andy@haynesy.com 2007-05-08 02:25 MST ------- Hi, My apologies for the confusion. I did actually mean "noapic" (not noapic=off or acpi=off) I noticed that when the motherboard used the older interrupt controller mechanism (XT_PIC) I didn't have a problem. I am not sure what the relationship is with acpi and apic except that the latter is the advanced programmable interrupt controller and the former is the advanced configuration and power interface. It seems (as we have discussed) that the problem is interrupt based -- hence the noacpi workaround for me. I will try the new kernel (sometime this week hopefully) and report back here and on the kernel bugzilla...
