[Bug 933836] New: Executable binaries are stripped
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=933836 Bug ID: 933836 Summary: Executable binaries are stripped Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: giecrilj@stegny.2a.pl QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- (gdb) file true Reading symbols from true...Reading symbols from /usr/lib/debug/usr/bin/true.debug...done. done. (gdb) start Temporary breakpoint 1 at 0x4014a0: file src/true.c, line 59. Starting program: /usr/bin/true Got object file from memory but can't read symbols: File truncated. Temporary breakpoint 1, main (argc=1, argv=0x7fffffffdcf8) at src/true.c:59 So gdb can handle it somehow with debuginfo but DrKonqi interprets it as a fatal error. This was not a problem in previous versions. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #2 from Christopher Yeleighton
We always ship the stripped debug parts in separate -debuginfo packages for quite a while (because of size)
But this time symbols are stripped too. Stripping symbols and debuginfo are independent actions.
and this is usually working fine with gdb (as long as versions match) so it might be a problem with DrKonqi
GDB gives me a warning, as you can see, not because debuginfo is elsewhere but because symbols are stripped. This warning is fatal for DrKonqi.
or with the debuginfo packages not having the correct versions.
What is the actual program you want to debug? And how do you try it?
I got a crash in kaffeine-xbu, I tried to get a stack trace but DrKonqi always fails when symbols are missing. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
