[Bug 737915] New: DVD Authoring Software Programs Fail and/or Crash during Decoding and/or Encoding
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737915 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737915#c0 Summary: DVD Authoring Software Programs Fail and/or Crash during Decoding and/or Encoding Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: nabramski@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=468365) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=468365) DVDStyler_strace_20111220 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0 This issue first became known via the use of DVDStyler (2.0.1-1.5) whenever an update occurred to the FFMPEG package (0.9-1.1) along with its dependencies. I am unsure if other updates went out to similar multimedia/DVD Authoring packages. All were via PackMan. Subsequently, attempting to use DVDStyler resulted in multiple encoding, transcoding, and/or menu creation errors to the point I resorted to exploring other DVD Authoring options. 99% of the files are in .mp4 format and transcode to DVD format (.VOB,.VTS, etc.) prior to rendering an entire project for me. IT would then burn to disc as designed and on to the next we go.... DVDStyler appears to be the best program for me at least as far as MP4 files were concerned. All the others I had issues with prior to finding DVDStyler. I found ManDVD, 2ManDVD, QDVD, etc. Prior to installing anything else, I ensured I captured a good backtrace or logfile for DVDStyler in an effort to assist with this problem. As FYI in case this doesn't come to mind immediately, apparently there is a conflict in the community about dvdauthor and dvdauthor07; one will supercede the other which will then cause grief for the other. Example: DVDStyler uses dvdauthor07 while ManDVD and 2ManDVD uses dvdauthor. It appears DVDStyler, the one that works best & the easiest of course, is the oddball & uses just dvdauthor07 in its list of necessary files. Moving forward, uninstalled DVDStyler along with dvdauthor07, and installed ManDVD, dvdauthor, dependencies, and 2ManDVD. All went smooth and no issues whatsoever other than a lower-quality rendering. After the FIRST DVD, I have no longer been able to render, transcode, encode, and/or any other function that is necessary to create the necessary DVD files and subsequently burn to DVD. I have attempted to utilize the render only option and record to DVD later to no avail either. I have also obtained a backtrace or strace as a log file for the errors occurring with the aforementioned also. If these two files are insufficient, there are 50MB+ log files as well however I did not want to overload; if they are wanted, please ask and I will upload the additional strace/log/backtrace files. Nevertheless, I did my due-diligence and searched the forums, found several tips and tried them without success, however there is little information regarding the latest versions of the affected software, libraries, etc. I also cannot revert to prior versions to see if I can once again use these DVD Authoring programs as designed. Another tip I found was to add the VLC repository, run package-manager, and see if a "GIT" version was available to any package results from searching "DVD, MPEG, and others". I was able to find and install FFMPEG 0.9.0.git.20111220-1.1 along with several other MPEG/DVD packages and found these to be unsuccessful also. I have basically removed everything and started from scratch as well since I cannot revert to previous version(s); this was in hopes of removing anything that would possibly interfere with the latest updates made to the entire video/audio/multimedia area. Thank you for your efforts regarding this matter and feel free to contact me for additional information that I am sure you will need. There has to be a connection, i.e. BUG, between the FFMPEG package and DVD Authoring as every single time the update comes through, this will go on and on until another update comes through or some miracle occurs and it just starts working again. Regardless, I remain committed to assisting all I can and will perform any and all requests upon receipt. Yours, Niko Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open any DVD Authoring Program & add MP4 files to the project. 2. Go through the program's process to encode MP4 files being authored & setup your menus for DVD format. 3. Render project & if it does not fail during rendering, proceed to burning the DVD and the failure will occur here at the latest. Actual Results: Encoding, Decoding, and/or Authoring Fails. Subsequent failure to create DVD as a result. Expected Results: All necessary DVD Files rendered and project burned to DVD (or at option, save these files to burn later). Additional Log File(s) are available upon request or I can re-run to produced desired info. 2 of said files are 50MB+ and I did not want to bog-down the system with these unless they are absolutely necessary and/or requested. I previously contacted them with the same info; Instead of statusing as resolved immediately, ask given it's difficult to report something whenever both sides of the fence are passing the buck. Is this the wrong area or where should this be reported? I'm going in circles here without resolution in sight, I'm not the only person having the issue, & I'm simply trying to do my part within the community regarding the OS's. Again, please advise where this should be reported other than via "OpenSuse 11.4" or the specific area within since the authors which whom I have already addressed advised to take it to this level. Thank you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Wherever you got the software from, there must be a maintainer/author. It's highly possible that the authors don't care for bug reports, but openSUSE surely won't fix software it doesn't even ship. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If this is truly the case I'll hash it out with them [again]... And yes, I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to fix something they do not make/ship/etc., but does this coming from pacman make a difference compared to, eg, downloading 3rd party directly? Regardless, if this is the "end of the road" with these issues I'll let it die :):):). Thanks again & take it easy and I appreciate the suggestions. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
