[Bug 730807] New: btrs installation prevent succesfull booting after the first newstart
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=730807 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=730807#c0 Summary: btrs installation prevent succesfull booting after the first newstart Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: melchiaros@aol.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=462465) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=462465) the logs User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 I´ve installed openSUSE12.1 final direct on hardware with btrfs and no separate home partition. The first boot of the system was successful. I´ve installed xen(with yast2), which breaks my network(ath9k - atheros) , so the first reboot seems to be recommend. -> That fails. The message on the screen is "Error No active partition". The system is not bootable at all. I´ve tried it some more times. I´ve downloaded the openSUSE12.1 KDE live cd and start it on my system(live modus). It gives me access to the harddrive, so I can provide the logs. The hardrive/files seems to be undamaged. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install openSUSE 12.1 final with btrfs and no seperate home partition. 2.Make first boot(automatically) 3.Install xen 4.make newstart 5. See message: Error No active partition -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #4 from Petr Uzel
Your hard disks already contained a GPT and YaST did not change that. Likely your system would boot if you had a MSDOS or GPT with synced MBR.
I don't know whether parted can convert between GPT and GPT with synced MBR. Petr?
No, parted can not do it automatically. But I see two options: 1/ Convert to gpt_sync_mbr manually: print out exact start and end sectors of each partition, mklabel gpt_sync_mbr (wipes out gpt), recreate the partitions manually on exactly the same positions. 2/ Use gdisk tool from: http://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/gdisk.html Unfortunately, we don't have it in the distribution. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
