Setting STEAM_RUNTIME_PREFER_HOST_LIBRARIES=0 fixed the problems for me.
While it fixes the problem for some games (L4D2, CS:GO), it breaks others (Total War: Warhammer, Alien: Isolation) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
