[Bug 938402] New: After setting host name and domain name in lan module of YaST2 these are not shown in next invocation
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=938402 Bug ID: 938402 Summary: After setting host name and domain name in lan module of YaST2 these are not shown in next invocation Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 201505* Hardware: armv7 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: freek@opensuse.org QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- After an update to openSUSE 20150712 (Tumbleweed) (armv7hl) I already have a value for host name and domain name in /etc/hostname. After invoking the lan module of YaST2 the screen Hostname/DNS only showed linux as Hostname and an empty Domainname. Reentering the required names and finishing the module, the file /etc/hostname still has the requires names. However starting the lan module of YaST2 again, these names are not shown on the Hostname/DNS screen, again only linux is shown. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=938402 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=938402#c3 --- Comment #3 from Freek de Kruijf <freek@opensuse.org> --- Before starting "yast lan" I entered the hostname and the domain in /etc/hostname as host.domain.lc. Choosing the tab for host name and domain I found that the name comes from the output of "dig -x <IP-address_of_the interface>. These come from the local name server in the router and is not the desired name. It is a local name in the network of the router. In my view the priority should be the names in /etc/hostname and if one or both names are not available the one derived from the name server can be used. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'm wondering if there's an underlying FQDN parsing issue? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Any input as server name for Apache - gives me an empty field. If there was a dot in name - I receive only dot in name. Same problem with virtual hosts Apache - any input for server name - I get only "invalid name error" -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
