[Bug 1094789] New: Leap 15.0 live KDE ISO: Xorg won't start as normal user in VirtualBox
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1094789 Bug ID: 1094789 Summary: Leap 15.0 live KDE ISO: Xorg won't start as normal user in VirtualBox Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.0 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org Assignee: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: sb56637@gmail.com QA Contact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Hi, I just tested openSUSE-Leap-15.0-KDE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot17.8-Media.iso in VirtualBox. Xorg won't start, and `startx` doesn't work with the live "linux" user account. `startx` does work after `su root`. The same image burned to a USB drive does work normally on a real computer, so something is apparently weird with the VirtualBox integration. The current openSUSE-Tumbleweed-KDE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20180525-Media.iso does *not* have this problem. I also created my own live ISO with Kiwi based on Leap 15.0, and this bug does *not* occur. I'll attach screenshots. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

This got carried over from the old TW live cd packagelist.
Neither the KDE nor the Rescue live media have this package:
job lock name virtualbox-guest-x11
The GNOME live does though.
@lnussel, dimstar: Do you remember the reason for this lock?
Almost certain this was from a space-hunt.. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

or broken virtualbox
I suspected the same thing, but I also tested it on an older Leap 42.3 system with its much older version of VirtualBox, and it acted the same way. Also my custom Kiwi ISO of Leap 15.0 works fine in VirtualBox. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
