[Bug 907541] New: .doc is not associated with LibreOffice
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=907541 Bug ID: 907541 Summary: .doc is not associated with LibreOffice Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox Assignee: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: bluedzins@wp.pl QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Minor issue, yet it kills average user. This is default XFCE upgrade from 12.3. XFCE associates .doc files with LibreOffice, yet Firefox associates .doc with gedit (it was LO before). Of course after opening it with gedit user sees some cryptic message on the screen and panics. Since LO is installed by default (?) please associate .doc with LO as well (not only for the XFCE itself). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Firefox uses gio to map file extensions to mime-types and after all to the application. gio itself is implementing the freedesktop "standard": http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/shared-mime-info-spec/ This works fine for me on 13.2 with WindowMaker and Gnome. DOCs are offered to be opened by LibreOffice. Unfortunately I'm not that deep into gio and the underlying share-mime-info handling. Let's try the Gnome guys for feedback. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

xdg-mime query default application/msword
=> this should output "writer.desktop" If not, then there is probably some mime-cache a bit defect. You should be able to correct this with
xdg-mime default writer.desktop application/msword

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=907541 macias - <bluedzins@wp.pl> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flags|needinfo?(bluedzins@wp.pl) | --- Comment #3 from macias - <bluedzins@wp.pl> --- @Dominique, # xdg-mime query default application/msword libreoffice3.5-writer.desktop I changed it as you wrote, and checked with Thunar as well as Firefox. It works in both cases. Since LO 4.3 is installed along with OS 13.2 it seems upgrader does not upgrade mime types well (at least not 100% properly). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
