[Bug 591669] New: gnome-power-manager icon does not show correct charging status
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=591669 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=591669#c0 Summary: gnome-power-manager icon does not show correct charging status Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: badshah400@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=351010) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=351010) Power-manager icon showing the wrong status of battery (it is actually charging, as the applet on its left indicates) User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.8) Gecko/20100204 SUSE/3.5.8-0.1.1 Firefox/3.5.8 The gnome-power-manager applet [notification area] does not show the correct charging status of the laptop-battery when connected to AC input. The icon still shows it as discharging and tooltip shows "x hours remaining" and nothing like "charging" and so on. After log out and log in the correct icon and information is restored. Please note that this is not a problem with the icon status update only as even selecting the option "Show icon only when discharging" from the gnome power settings also keeps the icon on, while actually it should disappear from the notification area since the laptop is now charging. Also, the additional panel applet "battery charge monitor" when added to the panel shows the current status (and correct tooltip) of the battery correctly and in contrast to the power-manager notification area icon. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Connect battery to AC power 2.Charge for some time. See power-manager icon, it still shows discharging. 3.Disconnect and let discharge. 4.Recharge and log-out. Icon status correctly updated. Actual Results: Power-manager icon does not show correct status of battery when charging and it is refreshed/restored correctly only after log out. Expected Results: Icon should change to charging version when connected to AC input. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Only after logging out does devkit-power show the correct status during charging (in fact there is no need to log in to get the correct status, the power-manager icon at the gdm screen shows it immediately after log-out and it stays correct thereafter). The battery charge monitor applet shows the correct status always perhaps because it uses some other mechanism (HAL as I understand)? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Turns out that devkit-power in its confused state applies the battery settings (like dimming the display, suspending after a set time which i have selected in the gnome-power-preferences for the battery settings) even though the computer is actually charging. Perhaps the severity could be bumped up? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But I have no real idea what's going on here. There have been some fixes in the meantime. Would be nice to know if Factory would work better. Is this always reproducible? Shows the correct charging status and applies the correct settings. So this is a problem only with 11.2 Also, if I may add, despite my lack of technical know-how in this regard, that this seems like a devkit-power issue. Indeed log-out and log-in does not show the correct status in 11.2 as I originally stated, but shows a completely charged status instead which too is incorrect. Only restarting does correct the problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Not likely, you have already upgraded to newer versions of openSUSE, which had a lot more bug fixes. As openSUSE 11.2 is no longer maintained (for a long time already) and I can't seem to reproduce anything similar in openSUSE 12.1 / 12.2 RC, I close the bug as 'FIXED'. Should you be able to reproduce this issue on a newer openSUSE version, please feel to report it again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
