[Bug 1185614] New: Please add Studio Controls to multimedia:apps
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1185614 Bug ID: 1185614 Summary: Please add Studio Controls to multimedia:apps Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound Assignee: tiwai@suse.com Reporter: sb56637@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I have found that Studio Controls ( https://ovenwerks.github.io/studio-controls/ ) works well to configure an audio workstation with Jack, MIDI, and PulseAudio support, with the added advantage of supporting USB sound devices. It is a good alternative to Cadence, which is already available in multimedia:apps. Would it be possible to package it for openSUSE Leap and Tumbleweed? There is an attempt to do so here that builds for Tumbleweed, but I can't make it build for Leap: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:sb56637:branches:home:aggplanta... Right now the package succeeds for Leap 15.2/3 and TW, but only by disabling Factory rpmlint checks. I will go on and test it thoroughly before even trying to SR it to multimedia, as the contained polkit rule will surely take time to be reviewed/audited by the security team, which is mandatory in such a case. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I made this package from a fedora package some month ago. I liked studio-controls at ubuntustudio and needed something smooth on my laptop to get jack and pulse working seamlessly without to much hassle. I must admit that when I got it working I more or less forgot about it and just used it. I'm happy if it comes to some use. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1185614 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1185614#c3 --- Comment #3 from Edgar Aichinger <edogawa@aon.at> --- Right now I stumble across a couple of nonexistent Requires:, still struggling to install it. @aggplanta, did you have to remove Cadence and stale config files in .config/, or anything from qjackctl in that regard, like the studio-controls webpage implies? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1185614 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1185614#c4 --- Comment #4 from Bengt Grdn <bengan@bag.org> --- Yes. I removed everything about Cadence. But nothing about qjackctl. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1185614 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1185614#c5 --- Comment #5 from S. B. <sb56637@gmail.com> --- Hi Edgar, my apologies for taking the liberty of assigning you this request. I know that your personal OBS repo has a strong audio production focus, and I've seen your name in the changelog for several current audio packages, that's why I decided to ask if you would be available. ;-) Thanks very much for accepting the request! But in the future what would be the best way to discuss general audio topics for openSUSE or make package requests? @aggplanta: Also thanks very much for your contribution with the initial package, it's been working well for me thus far. The GUI mixer app that comes as a separate package in your repo for Studio Controls is also very useful, in fact it's the only one I've found like that for ALSA and JACK. In my case, I didn't remove Cadence because I need the Catia patchbay that comes with it. But I did remove all the dot config files for anything related to Cadence, Jack, and LADISH before I ran Studio Controls. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1185614 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1185614#c6 --- Comment #6 from Edgar Aichinger <edogawa@aon.at> --- I'm fine, otherwise 'd just refuse to take action ;) I got the package installed and working nicely now also after removing Cadence completely (I had a local install leftover besides the rpm) and renaming the user config dir, ~/.config/Cadence. I've also talked with falktx; he likely will stop Cadence development sometimes soon, only fixing maintainance bugs in the future, and splitting the repo so that the other tools can be packaged separately... My plan is to run this for a while to see how it behaves, and then try to get it upstream. I wasn't able to disable the stricter Factory rpmlint checks for some reason, but I don't run Leap anyways, so I'll contact the security team for polkit rule allowance. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
