[Bug 1120699] New: ebtables not supported in kernel-default-base
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1120699 Bug ID: 1120699 Summary: ebtables not supported in kernel-default-base Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.0 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: tbechtold@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- When using the openSUSE Leap15 image for OpenStack (from https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Cloud:/Images:/Leap_15.0/images/ ), the module for ebtables is not available. I get: opensuse@cloudy:~/devstack> sudo modprobe ebtables modprobe: FATAL: Module ebtables not found in directory /lib/modules/4.12.14-lp150.12.28-default ebtables is needed eg. when you want to run devtack (OpenStack in a single VM). Is there a reason to not include ebtables in kernel-default-base ? the ip_tables module is there. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

is that for a development environment of openstack? If so I guess you'd run into more missing bits and pieces in that image.
It's for running a workload on a cloud image (in that case - yes - it's running OpenStack in the image). I wonder if the image should switch to the kernel-default instead of kernel-default-base ? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

In theory it is but that would increase the image size by like 200MB. I'm not sure that is desirable for production :-)
No. It's kernel-default (312 MB) vs. kernel-default-base (244 MB). See - https://build.opensuse.org/package/binaries/home:tbechtold:branches2/kiwi-te... - https://build.opensuse.org/package/binaries/home:tbechtold:branches:openSUSE...
I assume ebtables can be moved easily to kernel-default-base but if that is not sufficient anyways and we end up moving more and more stuff, resp need to add more packages to the image I wonder whether it wouldn't be easier to offer a 2nd image for developers?
Please no special developer image. Imo we need less images, not more. And the production image should also work for developers. I think 322 MB for a cloud image is ok (Ubuntu 18.04 has 324 MB, Fedora 293 MB). So I would prefer to switch to the kernel-default at least for the OpenStack image. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
