Maybe it does not have enough room? although this system has 1.2G RAM. The previous kernel 4.7.6 boots OK. initrd -> initrd-4.8.4-1-default vmlinuz -> vmlinuz-4.8.4-1-default openSUSE Tumbleweed 20161026 I don't think there will be any logs. If you are running on UEFI, adding the parameters to /etc/default/grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="debug ignore_loglevel earlyprintk=efi" Or traditional bios: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="debug ignore_loglevel earlyprintk=vga,keep After the modification is done, run this command to update the boot loader config file, /boot/grub2/grub.cfg. update-bootloader --refresh Reboot and Test. If I run: journalctl |grep -i "linux version" I only see 4.7.6 like this: Nov 01 10:42:55 carpet kernel: Linux version 4.7.6-1-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 6.2.1 20160830 [gcc-6-branch revision 239856] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP Fri Sep 30 12:22:14 UTC 2016 (fb37fcc) If I run "journalctl -b -1" I do not see any log for the failed boot, I only see the previous boot of 4.7.6. I have tried booting with a grub2 rescue disk too, but also it reboots. The reboot occurs after the message 'Loading initial ramdisk ...'.
