[Bug 421796] New: CPU FREQUENCY SUPPORT ABILITY IS NOT CONFINED TO THE PHYSICAL CPU ARCHETECTURE
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=421796 Summary: CPU FREQUENCY SUPPORT ABILITY IS NOT CONFINED TO THE PHYSICAL CPU ARCHETECTURE Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer Created an attachment (id=236438) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=236438) Selt Titled Attached is the boot log of 2 X_64 PC's - Both with Processor (CPU): AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor. 1. PC boot message displays that CPU frequency support is available. 1x PC boot message displays that CPU frequency support is NOT available. This issue has plagued me for over 3 versions of opensuse, but I have never put the differences together. In ALL cases where CPU Frequency support is NEVER available is when as ASUS Motherboard has been utilised. In the case above where CPU frequency support IS available a NON ASUS Motherboard has been used. I can offer another I386 ASUS Motherboard and another X_64 ASUS Motherboard which do NOT support CPU frequency. Other indications of poor support of ASUS motherboards is present in boot logs. Q. Why does the motherboard made by ASUS never permit CPU Frequency ability? I have wrestled with this problem for over 3 years now and it was not until I ordered a new PC without an ASUS motherboard. Other irregularities - Particularly in Suspend to RAM - NEVER, will work with an ASUS Motherboard. Suspend to Disk is always problematic with ALL ASUS based motherboards. The excuse of variants in Video and CPU differences IS NOTHING MORE THAN AN EXCUSE FOUNDED WITHOUT WITHOUT ANY LOGIC IN THIS CASE and despite my challenge in bug reports in this area - I always receive a reply of look up Yast Info On the Net and Try differed Video switches. In the suspend to RAM issue - It functions faultlessly, without any change to switches, on the PC with a NON-ASUS motherboard. I have been so frustrated at Suspend to RAM - never functioning AND suspend to DISK being problematic with ASUS motherboards - I will not raise this issue with the analyst in change of this module as discussion has neither been logical nor helpful. I only raise this out of topic example to further illustrate issues over and above CPU support title of this bug and I do not wish it resolved????????? Lets us both work out the differences between the ASUS Motherboards - which form a huge component of the ASIA-PACIFIC Area. Please advise what other logs you require. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
