[Bug 1172415] New: The eekboard layout does not have the eleventh consonant "ट" in Inscript Hindi.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1172415 Bug ID: 1172415 Summary: The eekboard layout does not have the eleventh consonant "ट" in Inscript Hindi. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Applications Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: prakashchitnis@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I run Leap 15.1 on my desktop. I use eekboard software to type in Hindi and Marathi languages using the "Inscript" keyboard layout. I could not find the eleventh consonant that is "ट" in Devnagri script on the keyboard. It should have appeared at the spot the single quotation mark is put on the onscreen keyboard (same as in US keyboard layout). The same "Inscript" is used even in Windows (I may say universally) and this consonant is there. The official site for "Inscript" also is fine. The problem, I presume, is in the file used by eekboard. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1172415 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1172415#c2 --- Comment #2 from Prakash Chitnis <prakashchitnis@gmail.com> --- I had filed the above bug report. As I had commented I suspected that the files pertaining to Inscript were affected. I examined the two files in/usr/share/eekboard/keyboards/symbols hi-inscript.xml & mr-inscript.xml The specific lines pertaing to the problem read: </key> <key keycode="48" name="AC11"> <keysym keyval="39">quoteright</keysym> <text category="letter">ठ</text> The problem is with the fourth line. I edited it to read as follows: <text category="letter">ट</text> The problem was solved. The issue may be also there in other Inscript files. I hope this is helpful in resolving the bug. Thanking you -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

M17N team are 100% CJK maintainers for now. So for hindi it is really hard for us to judge if a thing is right or wrong... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I suppose that whoever prepared the eekboard files for Hindi and Marathi missed this particular key. What I did to solve the problem was to compare the keyboards of "Inscript" and those in Eekboard and found the required corrections as under: "</key> <key keycode="48" name="AC11"> <keysym keyval="39">quoteright</keysym> <text category="letter"></text>" I am attaching the files as corrected by me. That solved my problem. Other Indic languages I will not be able to offer any comment. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1172415 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1172415#c5 Marguerite Su <i@marguerite.su> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |CONFIRMED --- Comment #5 from Marguerite Su <i@marguerite.su> --- I take a look at this bug report deeply during the weekend After some research, I now know the meaning of the xml files in https://github.com/ueno/eekboard/tree/master/data/keyboards/symbols They are key mapping files. The key code and name are from xkeyboard-config https://github.com/freedesktop/xkeyboard-config/blob/master/keycodes/xfree86 Firstly we need to know which real key the code refers, luckily I found: https://ubuntu-mate.community/uploads/default/original/2X/0/04de79d1bad86493... Now we need an indian keyboard layout, eg Bengali: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Md-Rifat-Hasan-Jihan/publication/342529... Now by comparing those two images, we can review the bugs in eekboards keyboard layout.
