Well, after I upgraded to the new drivers, the previously working
WEP-Hex-SharedKey-protected network at home only did start to work after being
there for a while, I couldn't get it to connect right after boot any more, but
I didn't find out what the problem was (using ipw and ifplugd at that time). It
didn't even detect signal strength or such until it magically started working
after some time (15-30min or so) of waiting.
After switching to iwl/NM (also new driver), it immediately detected the
network, showed it in knetworkmanager, but couldn't connect - /var/log/messages
told me the AP denied authentication, even though I used the same settings that
had worked before on the other drivers.
Note that I'm only at the place with that network for a weekend every few
weeks, so testing and giving more feedback is not that easy (sorry).
I just wanted to provide an example of where the newer driver from the build
system repo apparently works less than the older one from official 10.3 repos.
