I duplicated most of your work. I do not have a Windows host, and I installed a Mate desktop in a Leap 15.5 VM. I did not see any of the effects you noticed, either with the openSUSE packages, or when I replaced them with those from the .iso. This was with VirtualBox 7.0.2, which will be released soon - we are just finishing testing.
