I repeated zypper se -s GL after removing the 3kb+ /etc/zypp/locks file, without getting a segfault. Any chance this could be a "mutex"-like thing like in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=680508 and https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=32547 ? On the same machine over the past ~36 hours I did updates to 6 installations: Mageia 4 (urpmi), Fedora 19 (yum), Fedora 20 (yum), openSUSE 12.2 (zypper), openSUSE 12.3 (zypper) and openSUSE 13.1 (zypper).
