Some more clues are emerging, and I have found a correlation between events
which were apparently unrelated...maybe this problem is not the fault of NFS.
We see the following sequence of events:
(1) Windows user whose home directory is SMB-mounted logs out. This hangs
whilst saving his profile.
(2) On the NFS server (which is also a Samba server) we see a Reiser bug check,
which I reported on Wednesday as
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=459709
(3) There are no immediate problems, but some time later user deletes his
Windows profile from a Linux client using
rm -r .ntprofile
and the NFS hang occurs.
If you think NFS is not obliged to be resilient to the Reiser problem then feel
free to close the bug and I will focus on bug 459709.
I do have some more debugging information about the NFS hang, in particular
an rpc-health script I picked up on the web reports that the nfs daemons are
not responding:
