https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=343242#c7 --- Comment #7 from Mike Wells <mike_wells@cox.net> 2007-11-27 05:23:50 MST --- Mr. Meixner; I am not at all sure by what you mean when you say you do not understand what the actual problem is. The "actual problem is" that I can not install and correctly configure a HP DeskJet 6540 - and I should not have to jump through hoops to get this accomplished. However, we will go with your thinking and I will present you with detailed information one issue at a time! We will start with CUPS, and the issue there is that I CAN NOT access any of the "Manage Printers" functions with any username/password pair that belong to my 10.3 installation, i.e., root/passwd, myusername/passwd. I thought I had made this very clear in Comment #1, Item #2, and again in Comment #2 and Comment #3. I have a 10.3 vanilla install and I have deleted and reinstalled CUPS in its entirety in attempting to resolve the username/password pair conflict. I want to delete a printer (IPP) which somehow installs by default during system installation. The printer shows up everywhere, with the exception of YaST2 and is always the default printer. I can not delete the printer via the KDE Control Print Manager therefore I need to be able to access the Manage Printers functions in CUPS so that I can remove the printer from my 10.3 installation. As I had pointed out in my original Description I have spent hours and hours googling, reading and experimenting just trying to access the Manage Printers function in CUPS. The DefaultAuthType in /etc/cupsd.conf is "Basic" and from everything I have read I should be able to access CUPS minimally by using the root/root password pair for my installation. I can not! I get an "Authentication failed" error message each and every time I enter a username/password pair into the CUPS Authorization Dialog when trying to do any Manage Printers function. I will add that I am able to edit the configuration files via CUPS and that function accepts the root/root password pair. I have not modified the config files, I just wanted to test the authentication function. Mr. Meixner, please try and understand my current frustration level with regard to HP/HPLIP printing in SUSE. We should not have to jump through hoops to get a widely used printer installed and configured in this day and age. It really should be a point and click operation. However, I am more than willing to go the distance (I have done so in 9.1, 9.3, 10.1 and 10.2) Now I am more than sure that you will be coming back to me with a request for more detailed information with regard to the CUPS access issue and I am prepared to give you whatever it is that you need. Please be specific in your request. Once we have the CUPS access issue resolved I will begin presenting the HP 6540 installation/configuration issues in extremely detailed fashion. Thank you for responding. I am sorry that I had to reset Severity to Major to get you to do so, but I have to do what I have to do in order to be able to use my printer on this version of openSUSE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
