This is a known issues with HPET timer on some Asus M2A boards with newer
kernels. Please see
http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/4/20/163
http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/4/19/370
(the thread got splitted)
Either disabling HPET in BIOS or booting with clocksource=acpi_pm kernel
parameter fixes the problem.
The commit in vanilla kernel that triggers the buggy behaviour of HPET on these
boards is 5d8b34fdcb384161552d01ee8f34af5ff11f9684. Jiri, could you please
verify, after you install the distro with HPET disabled, that you can still
reproduce the bug in the most recent vanilla kernel, and if so, notify Thomas
Gleixner?
