A quick note.
I listed two problems. The responses are all concentrated on problem 2.
However, I see that as minor. I see problem 1 as major, if it is indeed a
problem. Someone else should test that.
When I installed RC2, the installer did not default to formatting the EFI
partition. I had to manually select that (I had just installed a disk, so it
needed formatting).
When installing the final release, the installer did default to formatting the
EFI partition. I'm not sure why the change. Perhaps it is because it found
"/EFI/opensuse/" already there. But reformatting is surely wrong - a recursive
delete of that "opensuse" directory should have been the correct response.
If the installer reformats the EFI partition containing Windows booting, that
will cause great strife. So this needs to be tested by those who are able to
test, and a warning needs to be put out if appropriate.
In my case, the formatting is unimportant, since it is a separate disk with
only opensuse on it.
Please, somebody with an existing UEFI box that has both Windows and opensuse
on the same disk, try starting an install of 12.3, and see whether the
partitioner wants to format the EFI partition.
