I have a Acer Aspire 5520G with a Realtek ALC268 which uses the snd-hda-intel
driver on openSUSE 11.0 x86_64.
I did have the same problem, sound works OK, however the microphone input did
not go to Skype, and I found the solution in this bug report.
In Skype the default "Sound In" device did not work, I changed it into "HDA
NVidia (hw:NVidia,0)" and after that it worked.
The strange thing is that shortly after installation of openSUSE 11.0, I did it
twice, it once worked without this workaround, but after that first time the
microphone did not work for Skype.
Is it possible to configure openSUSE such that the default "Sound In" device
works? It took me half a day to find this solution.
