I did have the same problem, sound works OK, however the microphone input did not go to Skype, and I found the solution in this bug report. In Skype the default "Sound In" device did not work, I changed it into "HDA NVidia (hw:NVidia,0)" and after that it worked. The strange thing is that shortly after installation of openSUSE 11.0, I did it twice, it once worked without this workaround, but after that first time the microphone did not work for Skype. Is it possible to configure openSUSE such that the default "Sound In" device works?
