I will be getting rid of this machine soon (in about a week) because of a new
laptop. So I will be unable to provide any information after about a week.
As of now, the workaround (Thanks to jdelvare) that I am following is to load
the thinkpad_acpi module with fan_control enabled and after which the machine
does not become hot, but the battery drains out obviously. The commands that I
use for the same are:
rmmod thinkpad_acpi ; modprobe thinkpad_acpi fan_control=1 ; echo level
full-speed > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan ; cat /proc/acpi/ibm/fan
With the default fan setting (auto), my machine is unable to do things like
Kernel compile and shuts down.
On a related note, I believe it is totally annoying to shutdown the machine
when the CPU reaches a critical temperature. We should give a warning to the
user telling that the machine has become hot and he should stop some processing
/ backup his current work. We can have a configurable timeout for this event
too, after which if the temperature has not come down, the machine can shutdown
automatically. Right now, when I am in the middle of composing a big mail, this
shuts down and I lose all the work that I had.
