After removing the vga and video entries from the kernel options dmesg shows:
NVRM: Your system is not currently configured to drive a VGA console
[ 22.189972] NVRM: on the primary VGA device. The NVIDIA Linux graphics
[ 22.189974] NVRM: requires the use of a text-mode VGA console. Use of other
[ 22.189977] NVRM: drivers including, but not limited to, vesafb, may result
[ 22.189979] NVRM: corruption and stability problems, and is not supported.
