When you try to start xemacs, minibuffer shows: Invalid argument: Language environment not defined, "Portuguese" After this, xemacs ignore init.el and custom.el, it doesn't even apply the X11 setting(Xresources) fully, minibuffer becomes locked and customize mode do not save anymore. -- Reproduction Open a terminal and type: felipe@CapEnt:~> export LANG="pt_BR" felipe@CapEnt:~> xemacs -- Xemacs version 21.5.27.20060705-26 who comes with suse.
