update:
I have been running 2.6.36-90-desktop and 2.6.36-90-pae for some time now. The
original bug did not reoccur and the mentioned freeze did also not reoccur. :-)
BUT: about as often as mentioned in the original post hibernation still fails.
It does not result in a message or anything visible, the system just does not
hibernate.
Syslog reveals the following messages if that happens:
--- cut here ---
kernel: [91051.040853] PM: Creating hibernation image:
kernel: [91051.044001] PM: Need to copy 452531 pages
kernel: [91051.044001] PM: Normal pages needed: 117090 + 1024, available pages:
108512
kernel: [91051.044001] PM: Not enough free memory
kernel: [91051.044001] PM: Error -12 creating hibernation image
--- cut here ---
If I try to hibernate again directly after the error it usually works just fine
(just once I had to try three times), but the successful attempt is not written
to syslog? Strange. Other successful attempts are written just fine...
So it looks as though the bug is still present but - since it does not lead to
data loss any more - much less painful! :-)
