I've tested the live DVDs with my old nvidia based video card (the one I used
with opensuse 11.4 and the built-in driver before I switched to AMD and 12.2)
today. The results are quite the same as with the radeon card:
- In 32 bit mode everything works fine.
- In 64 bit mode with boot parameter "nomodeset" the live DVD works, but with
the same video characteristics and performance (e.g. xvinfo says "no adaptors
present").
- In 64 bit mode with default boot parameters the machine hangs, having garbage
on the screen. In fact it was this behaviour that made me try the AMD based
video card for 12.2. Unfortunately with no real success...
The behaviour sounds very much like the one in bug 779883. Maybe it's a generic
64 bit issue that is not bound to a specific video card.
