I switched to NM and I did delete resolv.conf and experimented with NM. No success. However, although I am not a great expert with TCPIP it did get me thinking that the problem may indeed be related to my router setup as I have a local 4 port NAT router that enables me to share my internet connection if I want 2 computers on the same desk. I don't think you asked me but my setup is as follows: Computer >> Safecom 4-Port Cable/DSL Broadband Router >> HomePlug Powerline ethernet adaptor >> electrical power cabling >> HomePlug Powerline ethernet adaptor >> Netgear Cable Modem DSL Broadband Router >> Internet.... By unplugging ethernet cable from the WAN port of the local Safecom router and plugging it directly into my computer the problem disappears - at least using IFUP. I haven't tested it with NM Network Manager yet as there may be a conflict between sleep/Suspend and Network Manager. For real success ideally I would like: 1) to be able to use Network Manager instead of IFUP (not least because if I need support everyone forgets I am using IFUP!); 2) to be able to use Sleep/Suspend without getting a black screen - which happens when I use Network manager; and 3) to be able to use my local router If using Network manager is too buggy then I will need to know how to use IFUP in different situations e.g. when I am using my laptop to connect via my Wireless card (RaLink chipset works ok) wlan0 instead of by eth0. Hope the above is clear English. I think the hard part is solved and hopefully you may have enough information to be able to help me get Network manager solved or else help me workaround with IFUP.
