https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=342593 Summary: irq_balancer should _not_ be in the dependency list of the kernel Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- If a smp-motherboard is sensitive to irq-sharing it is bad to use irq_balancer as it is difficult to configure. However, if you have a smp - motherboard this program is in the rpm-dependencies of the kernel and will hence always be installed _and_ activated. This should not be the default. The reduction in performance is neglible compared to the issues caused by mainboards sensitive to shared interrupts. Solution: put the program out of the dependency list. Who wants to play with it, may play with it, but it can cause severe trouble to unexperienced users. Alternatively it could be activateable by the runlevel configuration. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
