We didn't want to force an update of the lang package because it's quite big, and this branch of f-spot is string-frozen (so it cannot get worse than the current situation). So we have this now: + we require a lang package with a version between the old version and the one in the maintenance update (to make sure we have a lang package, and that either the old one or the new one can be used) + we provide f-spot with the old version so that, if the old lang package is installed, there's no requirement to update to the new lang package (keep in mind that a lang package has a "Requires: %{name} = %{version}"). Obviously, this is hacky, but we couldn't find a better solution.
