From an update perspective I think this is the right approach. From a packaging

The -lang package should be released too, the requirements might otherwise become a dependency nightmare.
Oh, we're not talking about not releasing the -lang package, but about being permissive on which one can be used.
"807k" as it is in your repo is still an acceptable size I guess.
Well, while talking about updates in #opensuse-gnome, we already got feedback from 2 different people that limiting the size would be good, if possible. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From the email conversation on the maintenance list:
"Normally all subpackages are automatically released as part of the update. however, -lang package are usually updated via bundle-lang* updates, so as long as it is not a version update, that should be fine (is it a version update?). In addition, we have delta rpms, so if the new user had the previous version installed, the download bandwidth should be minimal (as the delta is ~ zero)." -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It is a version update, hence the issue :-)

That is true if f-spot-lang is already installed, but that's not true if it's currently provided by bundle-lang-$something. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

We do a whole gnome upgrade and in this case we fight for 807k *confused* ;-)
No, we fight for the general case, not this specific example :-) It's really about setting a policy on how this should be handled in general. It's actually even more important for the GNOME upgrade, since if we make it possible to not upgrade translations, it will be much smaller.
And it is a standardly not installed package (base setup with gnome). So I think not too many users are affected by this update.
F-Spot is installed by default with GNOME, as far as I can tell. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I wrote an email. Vincent you are on cc. We should discuss it as a separate problem to find a policy for the handling.

Okay.

You're missing the issue, it seems. We have this in f-spot.spec: Requires: f-spot-lang = %{version} f-spot 0.6.1.3 is installed, and f-spot-lang 0.6.1.3 is provided by bundle-lang-gnome-fr. Now, if I update to f-spot 0.6.1.5, I will need f-spot-lang 0.6.1.5 too. So, unless we update bundle-lang-gnome-*, I will need to download f-spot-lang. (In reply to comment #20)
So we of course should also release the translations.
Yes, nobody is saying the opposite. We're just arguing about making it possible to download less data for the updates for people who would like to do so. [and again, yes, for this specific case, we might want to just wait for the whole GNOME update and handle that with bundle-lang-* updates] -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
