https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=441332 Summary: Wireless connection successful sometimes, not at other times Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 3 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: gfarrell@netspeed.com.au QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Community User Created an attachment (id=249527) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=249527) /var/log/NetworkManager log The machine is a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop, with an Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN wireless card. The wireless connection is successful sometimes, and not at other times. Sometimes, the machine will start, and the wireless connection succeeds automatically, with no user intervention. At other times, no amount of configuring or starting/re-starting the network interfaces will cause it to connect. Sometimes, when the wireless has not connected for some hours, the connection will be made automatically without user intervention, while the machine has otherwise been idle (ie, not in use). When you come back to the machine, it shows a solid connection. A consistent theme is that once connected, the wireless interface will stay connected while ever the computer is not shut down for long periods. Events such as: deactivating the connection through the KNetworkManager tray icon, Suspend/resume cycles, warm re-boots, and cold re-boots where the computer is off for relatively short periods of time (up to about 30-40 minutes), don't affect the ability to re-connect once the event has completed. However, when shutdown for longer periods (> one hour, but especially if overnight), the wireless connection is prone to fail on startup. The only option is to wait for the unknown event to occur for the wireless interface to connect. Once (If) is has, the wireless connection stays connected, and the cycle repeats. On this machine, networking is conducted via NetworkManager, configured through KNetworkManager. The wired connection was configured through YaST-> Network Devices-> Network Settings, but the wireless interface was removed from there (after having attempted to configure it there) as it did not appear as a configurable device. The attached excerpt from /var/log/NetworkManager shows one period from when the wireless connection was successful, through an overnight shutdown, to an unsuccessful connection on the restart the following day, followed by a successful connection some hours after not being connected. This last event was initiated by selecting the wireless access point from the list in the KNM right-click menu. Other attachments show excerpts from /var/log/messages and /var/log/wpa_supplicant.log for the same period, and the output of various commands when the wireless connection was not working, and when it *was* working. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
