There are two issues here:
1. I don't think /boot has anything to do with the install hang. If the NTFS
partition is surely inconsistent then its mount is denied which causes the
install to abort. There are bugzilla entries about this.
2. About the Red Hat Release Note on the Vista boot problems.
The recovery instructions are more or less ok but the reason for the problem is
not that Vista aligns to somewhere else than earlier because Windows could
always use any sector, however the Linux partitioners (most notably the Parted
based ones SUSE/Novell/RedHat/etc use) keep corrupting partition entries in the
partition table. They change the real start sector from the correct value to
whatever they think the value should be based on obsolete, totally bogus
assumptions.
And because the vital boot information is at the start of the partition (NTFS
bootsector, pointer to the NTFS superblock, vital NTFS parameters, etc) thus
it's obvious that none of the Windows can boot anymore. This problem is well
known for over five years and keep trashing users' installations being it
Windows or whatever else.
