http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=521291 Summary: Grub passes incorrect video mode to kernel Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bugzilla@go4more.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.9.1.0) Gecko/20090623 SUSE/3.5.0-2.3 Firefox/3.5 Sorry, this will be a very sparse bug report, as I really can't pinpoint the reason: As a factory user, I do system updates once or twice a week. About every second time, after kernel updates, the following problem occurs: When the kernel starts, it complains, that "31a" is an undefined video mode, and gives me the mode list for manually changing the resolution. However, "yast2-bootloader" say the video mode to be "0x31a", and the entry in "/boot/grub/menu.lst" also reads -- title openSUSE 11.2 Milestone 3 - 2.6.30-8 root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.30-8-default root=/dev/disk/by-id/ata-SAMSUNG_HD160JJ_S0xxxx-part1 resume=/de v/disk/by-id/ata-SAMSUNG_HD160JJ_S0xxx-part2 splash=silent quiet showopts vga=0x31a initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.30-8-default --- So everything seems to be OK. Often I get rid of the problem by playing around with yast2-bootloader, re-installing the kernel etc. But I can't really say how, as it seems randomly to me (and doing a reboot after every config change is quite awkward ;). The problem always occurs when doing factory updates, no other changes in the system are done by me.
