https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231880 Summary: Inconsistent limitation on shrinking NTFS partitions Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ammulder@chariotsolutions.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com I like to keep a Windows partition on my laptop, but relatively small (just in case I need to run some Windows-only software now and then). It came with a "100 GB" drive with a 4 GB rescue partition (at the end of the drive) and a 90-ish GB Windows partition. Before installing SUSE, I cleaned up the Windows partition (disabled swap/hibernate files, defragged, etc.). When I installed openSUSE 10.2 the first time, it only let me shrink the Windows partition to about 10 GB (I used the manual partitioning option in the installer). The installation went OK. Then I reinstalled (to change from 64-bit to 32-bit), and that time, the installer let me shrink the Windows partition *again*. I only went down to about 6 GB, but the slider went much lower (to 2 or 3 GB I think). I did have some trouble during the partitioning phase of the install this time through (it complained that it couldn't mark the swap partition as type 82 and the install failed), but by that time the Windows partition had been successfully shrunk to 6 GB (so I'm guessing it wasn't a problem with the Windows partition shrinker). Bottom line, it would be nice if the first time through the installer I was able to shrink the Windows partition all the way (to 2-3 GB or whatever the bottom limit was) instead of needing two installations in a row to achieve the maximum Windows partition shrinkage. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
