https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=343242#c10 Mike Wells <mike_wells@cox.net> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Severity|Normal |Major --- Comment #10 from Mike Wells <mike_wells@cox.net> 2007-11-29 11:21:31 MST --- Johannes, this is the printer that is somehow installed each time I install CUPS and the one that I am trying to delete: HPDesJet6540 (Default Printer) <-- NOTE the mispelling on "DeskJet" Description: HP Deskjet 6500 Location: Location Unknown Make and Model: HP DeskJet 6540 Foomatic/hpijs (recommended) on 192.168.0.114 Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published. Device URI: ipp://192.168.0.114:631/printers/HPDesJet6540 This is a job that shows up for the above printer when I access the above URI - which by the way brings up CUPS 1.2.4 (not 1.2.12): HPDesJet6540-6 STDIN davids 275k 1 stopped The reason I can not delete the printer is because CUPS is trying to authenticate the root/root_pw at 192.168.0.114:631 NOT at localhost. I have been working on this for 7 hours straight (this time) and I am just this side of losing my temper in a manner which you would not like. I have removed/reinstalled CUPS twice per the instructions you sent me last. I have deleted every "living" thing on my system that has "cups" in it. I have configured cupsd.conf everyway possible for users. I have also run the gamut with SSL encryption (see next paragraph). Each time I attempt to manage/delete the above printer I receive a "426 Upgrade Required" error and then the web interface takes me into CUPS 1.2.4 and the above URI where root can not be authenticated. I googled the 426 error and everything points to SSL but according to all of the CUPS docs that was all resolved in or after 1.2.4. I thought maybe the new (10.3) cups-autoconfig util was "creating" the printer but it is not (I left it out of my last reinstall). Something is GROSSLY wrong here Johannes. The printer above SHOULD NEVER be installed by CUPS itself unless SUSE has all of a sudden promoted CUPS to system admin for the entire installation! As far as I am concerned this is serious in nature and the bug Severity needs to be elevated (again) to Major so I am going to do it myself. I am going to apologize in advance for my ignorance when it comes to CUPS, but you SUSE guys need to remember that most of us out here are a one-man operation and we have to spread our knowledge across the entire distro. We are not as fortunate as those of you that can "specialize" and devote the bulk of your time to one particular area. I am removing all of CUPS one more time and I will wait until I hear from you before proceeding any further because I DO NOT want to see the above printer again - period! And Johannes, if you need ANYTHING at all in the way of more information please let me know. It is down to one of 2 things now - either we get rid of this printer - or I get rid of SUSE. BTW, this is not the only fundamental issue I am fighting with 10.3 - and printing is FUNDAMENTAL. Again, please keep in mind that this is my 5th version of SUSE and I have NEVER seen anything like the above previously! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
